So everyone made this BIG DEAL about the Olympics coming to Vancouver and it’s finally almost here! Now what? They gave you two FULL WEEKS off of school to enjoy the celebrations and festivities of the Games. So WHERE do you start?
After spending hours on the super convoluted VANOC site and try and navigate your way through the clutter of the 500 Olympic events icons and the other 600 tabs each with a drop down tab featuring 12 additional options. you’re ready to throw your laptop out the window. Well just STOP. Because before you go and spend $499US on a not-so-successful iPad… we have a better solution for you.

BC Living (www.bcliving.ca) is an ONLINE GUIDE to the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. It’s a “what to see and what to do” guide to the city during the Games. So instead of spending hours searching different sites for information, you can find it all in one central location.
So just what can you find on BC Living Online? Let’s give you the low-down:
- The “To Do” section gives you daily updates on what’s going on in Vancouver, Richmond and Whistler. From Cultural Olympiad events to parties happening around the city. The nifty little ruler-like calendar on the top of the image box let’s you track back a few days ago or a few days ahead to find out events to look forward to.
- The “To Watch” section is basically the daily TV Guide displayed perfectly and compactly on the screen of your Mac. They don’t just highlight Olympic sporting events but everything else on TV, from your daily news to the sexy pilot on The Bachelor.
- “Athlete Profiles” give you a run-down on all of your Olympic Athletes and helps you familiarize yourself with their histories and everything it took to get Crosby from the Junior Leagues to the Olympic Rink.
- The “Photos” section gives you an everyday person’s look on the Olympics. Readers are free to upload their photos to the site and share their experiences with Joe, Bob and Annie.
- BC Living also hosts three different types of blogs, “Go Celebrate!”, “Games Time” and “210 Words”. Go Celebrate updates you on the parties and events happening around Vancouver, Games Time gives you commentary on the sporting events, the winners, the losers and the works. 210 Words is a contest that let’s people share their stories with everyone.
- Finally the “Games Resources” section provides you with a sweet map that shows all the venues, pavilions and Olympic facilities and where they are on the map of Van. It also has a map that shows you all the transportation routes to help you get around. With all the ugly road closures you might as well walk everywhere.
So essentially, there really isn’t anything the guide doesn’t offer. So don’t waste your time googling everything. Just go to www.bcliving.ca and plan your weeks’ of freedom and go enjoy all that Vancouver has to offer. The world only comes to your city once in a blue moon so you might as well go and show them how much you love your own city by getting out and sharing that love.
